From Wendy Oden...

Prayer Request:
Please continue to pray for Allan, the person I talked about inLife Group this past Sunday. The devil is at work. We have talkedeveryday this week, and I really thought that I had made progressuntil this morning. He came to me about something. To much to go onabout in an email, but Satan can be so very subtle. Allen is anevolutionist. Now he is trying to convince me, but in a veryinteresting way. He knows that I love to read so he gave me a copy ofa science fiction novel today. Did you pick up on the fact that I saidFiction. He told me that this book is real. I have not told youexactly who he is, but Allan has a huge effect on a large group ofpeople.

I have been praying constantly for the Lord to use me in this situation. I have been praying for Allan and everyone around him and involved. IREALIZED THIS MORNING THAT HE HAS BEEN WORKING JUST AS HARD TO COME UPWITH A WAY TO SHARE HIS BELIEFS AND IN SUCH A WAY THAT MOST PEOPLEWOULD NOT REALIZE WHAT HE WAS DOING. This is what makes me nervous. Ihave always heard about how satan can squirm his way in unnoticed by so many, but I have never witnessed it personally in this manner. I thank the Lord that He is opening my eyes to notice what Allan is doing. Please continue to pray for him and me in this battle.

Thank you, Wendy Oden

Update on Jenny's mom

Below is an e-mail that Cory sent. Just wanted everyone to see it - in case you weren't on our old e-mail!

"Jenny and I hope everyone is doing well. We are sorry that we have not been in Lifegroup the past weeks and missed out on a lot of the fellowship that we love and need. We spend most of our weekends at the hospital with Jenny's mom. I come and help teach the 3 year olds in Treasure Land and then head to the hospital from there. With family in town each weekend and most of them staying with us, Jenny has been staying at home, playing hostess to the family, and then making her way to the hospital each weekend morning to be with her mom. We were hoping to be able to get things back to "normal" soon and be able to fellowship with everyone on a weekly basis again but we recieved some information on Jenny's mom today that was not positive.

As most of you know Jenny's mom went through 10 days of chemo for her Leukemia. That didn't get it all so she went through a second round of 7 days. She has started to lose most of her hair (which she hates the most), has started getting some sores in her mouth, upset stomach, and some other "minor" side affects. She did a bone marrow test and the results came back in from California which revealed that the cancer was worse than they thought or as the doctor put it "more complicated". She is going to have to have a bone marrow transplant. What they are going to do is let her stay in the hospital about two more weeks to get her stronger, go home for a few weeks to rest, and then come back for the bone marrow transplant. In the meantime, Jenny's mom's immediate family will be getting tested to see if they are a match for her. Jenny's uncle (her mom's brother) has already been tested (don't know about a match or not). After him it would be Jenny's grandmother but Jenny's mom doesn't want her mother, at 80 something years of age, to go through a bone marrow transplant. Jenny's mom also doesn't want Leanne (Jenny's sister) to be the donor because Leanne had a brain tumor and we don't know the possible affects from that. So Jenny would probably be option #2 behind her uncle. It could also come down to having to find a donor if no one is a good match.

What we have been told so far is that after the transplant she would be in the hospital for at least 100 days and that is the best case scenario. What this means is Jenny's mom will miss her daughter's (Leanne) wedding that has been on the books since last Christmas. I would assume that they are going to postpone the wedding but I don't know that anyone has thought that far in advance. We will also be having Christmas at the hospital with Jenny's mom this year.

Please keep Jenny's mom and our family in your prayers as we continue down this road. We are staying positive as we know that there are still options for treatment, but most of all we know that God is ALWAYS in control and his will is being done and will be done. We sometimes don't understand the path he takes us down but we do know that if we follow him and the path he leads us on that we will be blessed in the end.

Also a few minor, minor prayer request but still things that we are dealing with professionally. Jenny is in her last class this semester at Mississippi College for getting certified to teach. It is my understanding that she has 3 years to complete the certification. May of '08 will be 3 years and this class she is currently taking is not offered in the spring. If she is the donor for her mom, I know without a shadow of a doubt that she will jump at the opportunity but we don't know how that will affect her ability to complete her course this fall. Also I sit for my professional engineer exam the last weekend in October which appears to be within a week of when the transplant is going to be. I've already talked to the board about me postponing this test until the spring and I have been told that there are no postponements no matter what, no exceptions.....unfortunately this situations falls in that category. As of right now I am still going to sit for the exam...how much studying I get done will be the big question. Jenny and her mom both want me to still sit for the exam so I am. If you will keep us in your prayers as well as we still have things going on that pertain to our jobs.

Lastly, Jenny and I want to thank everyone that has brought food, given us gift cards, calls, and visits. We are truly blessed with some great friends and church family. Jenny has been really strong through this all and I know that it is because of her faith, and your prayers and support. As my college roommate told us a month ago when they gave Jenny's mom 48 hours to start improving "Jenny's mom is in God's hands. He's the great physician. What better person would you want with her and watching over her right now."

Cory"

Prayer request from Jan Haas

some of you know will and jan haas, but some do not. will and jan helped start the lucas lifegroup several years ago. they moved away in the fall of 2004. they have 2 boys - landon (almost 4 years old) and nelson (turned 1 on may 2nd - also jan's birthday!). she sent a prayer request for me to share with everyone. the picture below is old - from december 2006. but it is the best one i have of mary peyton and her tennessee boys!

Hey everybody,
We still miss you guys so much! Thank you for including us in your class.I do have a prayer request. You may remember almost four years ago my friend, Julie, had a stillbirth. We were pregnant at the same time, and she lost her babyat 39 weeks. She got pregnant again last year and had a miscarriage. She has remained faithful to the Lord, but has had emotional struggles as you can imagine. She is about 9 weeks pregnant now, so I ask you to say a special prayer for her that she will have a safe pregnancy and bring this baby home. What a joy that would be!!!Thanks so much. Come see us.

Sunday, July 29 Prayer Requests

Jill & Patrick~
Jill is home. She and Patrick are going to the hospital several times/day for her to feed Taylor, who is still in the NICU (she has a condition that is kind of like sleep apnea in adults). She will have to be in the NICU until at least Friday or Saturday. Arrangements for Meredith are incomplete, but Geno thinks that the memorial may be this Friday.

Brendy~
Blake Rylan Grammar was born last night at River Oaks around 7:00. He weighed 5 lb. 14 oz. Pray for Brendy as she cares for Blake by herself.

Demetria & Kevin~
Kevin's mom (Gay) will be having surgery in the morning.

Brad & Jennilee~
Jennilee is traveling. Brad's brother/sister-in-law are selling everything they have and moving to New Zeland.

Susan is not feeling well.

Ann Elizabeth~
Her grandfather has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She said that it is pretty much all over his body. Her dad is having a hard time with this.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Taylor Grace Easley was born today around 1:45 (per Geno). She weighed 5 lbs. 6 oz.

Funeral arrangements for Meredith Mae Easley are incomplete, but Geno thinks that it will be later this week in North Mississippi.

Please keep Jill and Patrick in your prayers. I cannot imagine the emotional rollercoaster they are on right now.

Also, Brendy is in River Oaks Hospital (room #286). She is having gallbladder problems, but does not need to have surgery until after the baby comes! She is due August 23.

I will do a list of prayer requests from yesterday when Geno e-mails them to me!

Hello from the beach

Hey everybody!! I hope everyone is doing good. We had a great day yesterday even with a pretty major storm coming through around noon. Last night we had dinner with my life long friend, Warren and his family. It has really been about 10 years since we have been around his kids much and I really feel old now. Allison, his oldest, will be 21 this year... in my mind she is still this little 7 year old who was in our wedding but then she walked in last night and is all grown up and... well let's just say I have thanked God once again that I don't have daughters! Well I just wanted to say hi to everyone... In Him, Geno

Monday Monday...

O.k. this isn't Geno...he's laying up on the beach soaking up rays (or rain - not sure). This is Suzanne. I have had a blog for our family for several months and enjoy keeping it up, so I told Geno that I will be in charge of our class blog! I've made a few changes to what he had originally done and still have a few more things to do when I get home (this is my lunch hour).

One different thing is that I am going to list prayer requests that were named on Sunday. Throughout the week, if there is something else that needs to be added, send an e-mail to lucaslifegroup@hotmail.com and I can go back and edit the prayer requests. This way, we have 1 list of prayer requsts for each week. Just seems easier.

I am going to add music to the site! I've got a music player on my blog and it's nice to sometimes just sit and listen. SO.....if there are specific songs that you want to hear, send it to the above e-mail address!!

ALSO....several people in the class have blogs. I am going to put a link to those blogs over in the right hand column. So if you have a blog and I don't know it....send an e-mail to the above address!

Hope you all have a great week and I hope that this is a place that you can connect even more with our class!!

Our First Post

I can not begin to tell each of you what an honor it is to serve as your leader each week. You are more of a blessing than you will ever know. I want us to use this blog to stay even better informed about each other and our needs. So please try it out... post a comment or two... if you have any ideas we can certainly try to incorporate them.

Give it a run and let's see how it works.
